Wilson defeated ten other apprentices from across Canada to win the annual competition held in Niagara Falls on July 19 and 20, organized by the Sheet Metal Workers Canadian Council. To earn the top title, Wilson had to demonstrate superior math, trigonometry and craftsmanship skills through a written theory exam, a practical exam involving drafting and pattern development and a shop project that required working with copper, a material that demands highly developed hand skills.
